Have you heard of NaNoWriMo? It’s short for National Novel Writing Month, and it happens every year in November. The NaNoWriMo organization – the writers who created this fun annual challenge – focuses particularly on fiction writing, and the idea is to write 50,000 words of a novel in 30 days (which works out to about 1,667 words per day). I’ve participated in NaNoWriMo twice before – once in 2012, and again in 2018. Both times, I hit the 50,000 word mark and it was GRUELING. In 2018, I was working full-time, traveling to multiple conferences, and I hosted Thanksgiving for my family. I woke up everyday at 5am to write for two hours before starting work. I was just barely able to scrape out 50,000 words by the skin of my teeth! But let me tell you: Finishing those 50,000 words felt so incredibly good. This year, I’m doing NaNoWriMo again, but I’m not writing a novel. This time, I’m finally writing a memoir (nonfiction) that has been on my heart for years. And I don’t want to do it alone. I’d love to have support, encouragement, and accountability as I go through this process. Writing is hard work! If you’re writing nonfiction and this sounds like something you might be interested in, too – let’s do it together! I’m creating a private Facebook group for National [Nonfiction] Writing Month in November, and I’d love to have you join. I’m opening it up in October so that we can chat about how we’re preparing for it, share ideas, and get to know each other as well. Here’s what you can expect: Planning tools and ideas from me throughout the month of October. Open writing rooms on Google Meet 3x a week, which you’re welcome to join! We’ll be on mute during these times so that we can focus on writing together. Encouraging videos and articles to keep you motivated and help you write a great book from the start. Opportunities to meet other nonfiction writers and support each other during this fun event! … and a few fun prizes throughout our time! FYI: I’m not affiliated with the NaNoWriMo organization in anyway! This is just a fun spin-off. 🙂 Hope to see you there! Join the FB Group here.
